Juneteenth, recognized each year on June 19, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This year, Chicago’s Juneteenth celebrations include the opening of the Obama Presidential Center—a building that celebrates the legacy of the nation’s first Black president and cultivates space for community, the arts, and civic engagement. HSPRD is proud to be based in Chicago, a city integral to Black history, culture, and civil rights advocacy, and to contribute to the fight for equality in employment, housing, healthcare, and access to justice.

HSPRD recently secured a unanimous ruling by the United States District Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in favor of former civil immigration detainees housed at the Kenosha County Jail.

HSPRD is proud to honor and celebrate Pride Month in Chicago, a city with deep roots in LGBTQIA+ history and advocacy. In 1970, Chicago hosted one of the first Pride marches in the country, and that tradition continues today with the Chicago Pride Parade bringing together hundreds of thousands of people every year. With the LGBTQIA+ community facing increased attacks on the progress and equality that community members and advocates have fought towards for decades, this year’s theme, “Free to be Proud,” is particularly meaningful. The theme celebrates the importance of everyone’s right to live openly and authentically while renewing a call to action. HSPRD is proud to fight alongside community members and advocates working towards greater equality for all.

HSPRD recently secured a unanimous victory for their client in a special education appeal in the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

HSPRD Partner Chris Johnson will be at the Perrin Conferences’ Insurance Coverage & Allocation Issues Conference, May 13, at the Union League of Philadelphia. The conference will focus on the latest trends and challenges in insurance coverage litigation and will offer many opportunities to network with prominent plaintiff and defense attorneys, judges, in-house counsel, insurance professionals, and industry experts.
